Oh My Poor, Poor Ears

Oy the screaming, the screaming, please make it stop. What’s wrong? Teething? Night terrors? PMS? So. Much. Screaming. And so not sleeping. Any of us. Why? WHY? WHYYYYYY?????

I want my sweet baby back. I want to exorcise this tempramental, shreiking, whining, angry, tantrumy, opinionated, cranky, bitey, smacky, wakeful thing that has taken over Nick’s body. I want to sleep again so that I make some sense and don’t have to make up words like “tantrumy.”

Is this my fault? I just had to go and blog about what a great sleeper he’d been recently, damn jinxing post. Why did I do that?! I guess I thought that perhaps after 13 months of absent and broken sleep that we deserved a little peace — and he did give us like two nights without waking up at all! That’s enough right? Grrr.

Even with the parental torture we’ve managed to drag our sorry butts out into the sunlight, around other people even, to keep the Devil Spawn occupied (you heard me right, we’ve seen the return of the DS). On Saturday afternoon we had a family fun extravaganza at Science City again. We love that place, especially with a free coupon! I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking. I’m going to go lock myself in a closet until Mike gets home to free me.

He Didn’t Say Much Until Today

This morning I was changing Nick’s diaper and we were naming body parts like we usually do when he grabbed a certain piece of his… um, anatomy. I told him the proper name for it, he looked at me and said clear as day “pe-nis?”

He’s such a boy. Sure, “penis” is no problem but its way too much to ask for a “mama” now and then.

No Lazy Days of Summer

We’ve had a busy week! Nick and I have been social butterflies this week with playdate upon glorious playdate. We’ve been to music at the park, swimming, shopping, the KC Children’s Museum, and tomorrow we must choose between going to the pool with The Girls or the Spray Park with The Moms.

With all the activity Nick has been sleeping like a champ even though I have a suspicion that some eye teeth are plotting their escape soon. This morning we reached a new stage of parenthood — he actually slept LONGER than I wanted him to. Wha?!? I’ve been going to the gym every other day when Nick wakes up at 6:30am, and that’s been going great for us. Mike gets to relax a bit while he drinks his coffee and the boy watches his Bear, and I’ve finally found a routine that gets me working out on a consistent basis. Voila. All is well. Until the kiddo decided to sleep in a bit today. I still made it to the gym, but Mike was a teensy bit late to work. Oh well. Did I mention that he slept EIGHT HOURS STRAIGHT last night? And that he’s been doing similar things for about a month now? I don’t want to jinx anything here, but… he’s been sleeping really well! And the angels sang and peace spread throughout the land! Yippieeeeeeee!

Anyhoo, we had a great time at the Children’s Museum today and I would have had some awesome pictures of the boy being generally adorable if I hadn’t forgotten the stupid camera. Oh well, next time. And I learned something today: it is just not right to have two kids named Harley and Lexus. Even in Kansas.

A Post About the Weather? I Must Really Be Out of Writing Material.

It has been HOT lately. When you get in the car and the thermometer says 108 that is just WRONG. When your baby is causing all types of mischief because he is bored out of his skull because you can’t leave the house for fear of instant vaporization, that ain’t right. Thankfully today is much cooler… yea! Unthankfully it is because it is raining… hmmm. It is really nice but we’re still homebound so that doesn’t help the ornery baby situation. This morning I went to the gym, and when I was walking home at 7:15am it started pouring down rain. I haven’t walked in the rain in a really long time and it was actually nice! I was soaked by the time I got home but it was worth it for the cooling summer rain. We need it!
