Baby Daddy, Snafu, Thing #2
Dang. The weekend went really fast.
We got a lot done, and by “we” I mean mostly “Mike” got a lot done. Sunday morning was spent patching the roof and then he went to an IRL race at the KC Speedway with a coworker buddy of his. Then he came home, ate dinner, and spent the rest of the night sweating, vomiting and sleeping. Good times!
This meant of course that I was on Nick duty and because of that he didn’t get to sleep until almost 10pm. I did my best in my current large and fatigued state and thankfully there haven’t been any ill effects to be seen so far. We’ll see when he wakes up from the long nap he’s taking though.
We spent the rest of the weekend working on stuff around the house, further preparing for the wee baby’s arrival, and hunting around for a new rocking chair. We are reluctantly trying to replace the one we have because despite Mike’s best efforts the thing sounds like you’re beating a donkey whenever you sit in it. Not too quiet. The problem is that they’re pretty expensive for one that isn’t a little too “country” for my taste. We found one at the Nebraska Furniture Mart that will do if it has to but we’re going to keep looking in the VERY short amount of time we have left before we need to have one. I may send Mike out to buy that one while I’m laying around in the hospital though!
In other news that fan that blew up in our car is turning into a serious pain in my butt. It is HOT now (at least for a significantly pregnant lady) and our car has no air conditioning. I’ll be running it around this week getting it checked out, then ordering the part, then taking it back to be fixed. And for the pleasure of doing so I will be paying a LOT LOT LOT more than I was hoping to — which was of course nothing. (I wanted to hear the mechanic say “Oh I LOVE to fix those! I’ll pay you to let me do it!”) Thankfully we had that garage sale because this is going to eat at least all the money we made from that.
Hey, didn’t I say I was done bitching for a while?

Beasts, Lists, Snafu
This post is going to be nothing but bitching. Sorry.
First I want to air my beef with Target. Every single time I go there I get overcharged for something. This has gotten really old really fast. By the time I check out I am ready to go and Nick is REALLY ready to go, so it is a serious pain in the batoot to have to go to Customer Service and get it sorted out. I sooooooo wish I could just quit going there but let’s be real here, I am an addict and I know it.
Second, I am so done going to these fancy “HUGE BABY AND KIDS!!!!” sales. Done. Finished. Rather stay home and scrub the toilet. I’ve been to two recently and they both left me frustrated, stressed out, and feeling dirty. The Pembroke one was so crowded you couldn’t even move because they crammed all the stuff into one building this year, and then had this ridiculous line you had to go through which was the only way to get out of the building. The second was the Kid’s Closet Semi-Annual Clearance which was filled with super expensive filthy crap. I just wanted to leave when I saw the checkout line, but my mom insisted that it wouldn’t be that bad so we hung around to buy our $13.50 worth of toys (which unfortunately weren’t very many for that much money). After being in line for over an hour she was pretty pissed and vowed to NEVER do it again. She’s with me now. NOT WORTH IT!
Third, our house needs to figure out that we do not have much time to devote to it anymore so it shouldn’t let things happen like the roof leaking. That’s right, water dripping down the wall and making a big puddle by the litterbox. Also leaking in through the sliding glass door in our room and into the basement. Also leaking from a mystery location from somewhere above the floor joist in the middle of the house and into the basement. Mike has his work cut out for him this weekend. And he loves nothing more than climbing around on the roof! Ha!
And Sabine? Just so you know I am not overly fond of picking up your crap off the floor while trying not to vomit.
Then today our Subaru blew out the fan in the ventilation system, we think. This will require one or more trips to the dealer for service and probably more cash than I want to even think about. Meh.
Oh yeah, and yesterday a bird pooped on my arm.
Okay that is all I’m going to lay on you. Bitchfest 2007 is over for now.

Thing #2
The baby is due in about three weeks. Eeep!
All of a sudden it seems so close, like a switch flipped in my head the other day and now there is REALLY a BABY going to come out of me very soon. All of a sudden I am packing my hospital bag, setting up the bassinet and other baby soothing devices, nagging Mike to get the carseat installed. I’m sure I have plenty of time left before she arrives but I feel the clock ticking now and I’ll admit I am getting a little nervous.
Of course it doesn’t help that I have contractions every evening now, and have for the last couple of weeks. At the midwife’s office this morning I discussed how many contractions I’ve been having and how much this baby is a cervix puncher — very different than Nick was. Unfortunately what I thought was just a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions are potentially early labor. Crap.
So now I have to try to make dinner early in the day so that Mike can just heat it up in the evening. Looks like we’ll be investing in a crock pot in the near future! The problem is that by dinnertime I am tired but being on my feet to make dinner (or even getting up to go to the bathroom) gives me contractions. Lots of them. My midwife wants me to lay on my side and drink a bunch of water when this happens so it looks like I need to be off my feet from about 4pm on. NOT easy with a very needy toddler climbing on me all evening!
The next few weeks will be interesting I’m sure. I know Mike is eager for her to be here, and for me to not be pregnant any longer, but I am still in no hurry. They’re easier to take care of when they’re in than when they come out! This time around I can really picture having her here, it is a much more tangible picture than when I was pregnant with Nick. I am super excited but also realistic so like I said, no hurry there Zoey!

Today while I was doing some dishes Nick began screeching and pointing out the window at the front of the house. He does this a lot so I wasn’t overly curious. But he kept at it, frantically screeching and pointing so I looked out the front door. Roscoe was on the front porch. That dog is a damn Houdini I swear.

Snafu
We had a garage sale today and boy howdy we are tired. It’s been a tough week with the young man so we were already a bit beat, but we are gluttons for punishment so we were up at 6am and not finished until about 5pm. We had the sale scheduled to end at 1pm but folks kept showing up and buying stuff so we kept selling it to them! Happily!
I love stuff, but I really love getting rid of stuff, especially when exchanged for cold hard cash. And today we got rid of a LOT of stuff. We also got sore muscles and sunburns but all worth it I guess. And as an added bonus Nick got a little nature lesson this afternoon. There was a baby garter snake on the steps to the basement which was quite distressing to Mike so I removed it (he’s the bug guy and I handle the snakes). Nick was fascinated so I told him all about it and then we watched as it slithered away to live under our front porch. With all the creepy-crawlies that freak me out I don’t understand why I like snakes so much, but at least I’m not a TOTAL wuss.
I’m sure this hasn’t been overly coherent so I’m off to bed now. Just one more thing… Just in case any of you think the “I’m going to kidnap you away from your mommy ha ha” game is funny, it isn’t. I’ll never understand why otherwise sweet and well-meaning complete strangers think it is funny to pretend they are going to abduct your child. The child does not enjoy this game and quite honestly the mother REALLY does not enjoy this game. I’m just sayin.’
