When the cat’s away…

No more videos for now, I’m tapped 0ut. It was a good run though!

Mike has been out of town since early Sunday morning — in San Diego of all places. And when he is gone (which is a LOT this year) I am left to deal with some combination of illness, constipation, growth spurt, nap strike, eating strike, boundary testing, and/or general orneriness.  I think on this trip it has been all of the above.

Today has been a true test of my patience as a mother. Here is a list of Nick’s accomplishments so far:

1. I caved while at Target and bought him a fairly small train set. He was so cute saying “Pleesh?” and trying desperately to get it into the cart (I said smallish, not lightish). When we got it home he dragged it in from the car all by himself, then when we put it together he gave me a big hug and said “THANK YOU DODDY!” (I am doddy)

2. Bit Zoey in the finger.

3. Decided that if he does something he shouldn’t that a “Sorry doddy” or “Sorry sister” will make it all better. After about the third time it doesn’t anymore.

4. Lay down on top of Zoey.

5. Had a massive poopsplosion in the playplace at Chick-Fil-A.

6. Squirted Clean Shower in his mouth while he was in the bathtub. Yes, I called Poison Control. No, it is not a problem. Yes, I will put it up higher now. Yes, I did leave him unattended in the bathtub for a minute while I picked up the poopy diaper. And no, I do not need a lecture about that. Remember how I am alone here?

So long story short, THANK GOD MIKE IS COMING HOME TOMORROW. I am going to make them all leave and then I am going to take a nap. I need it.

Chatty McGabberson.

There are two things that people are always telling me, things they learned in their infinite parenting wisdom.

#1: The first time they sleep through the night you will wake up in a panic thinking something is wrong with them.

#2: You think you want them to talk until they do and then you always wish you could shut them up.

From my own parental experience I’ve learned that neither of these things are the least bit true for me. OK, maybe Nick gets a little blabbermouthy now and then but I really can’t fault him for that since he is so excited and happy about something that he just has to tell us all about it. Nothing wrong with that.

And as far as the sleeping thing goes whenever I wake up and the kid is still out I think, “Four hours and still asleep? THANK GOD! I’m going back to sleep while I still can.” I used to be more diligent about checking on Nick but even then I sure wasn’t going to drag my exhausted tush up out of bed for nothing. I rely on the dog to let me know if there’s a problem.

(I’m just kidding.)

(Kind of.)

We waited so long for Nick to start talking and now that he is we are loving *almost* every minute of it. He repeats everything we say which is usually not a bad thing and yells about the moon and the stars in the sky and says “OOOT-OOOT, OOOT-OOOT!” every time he hears a train and becomes adamant about wanting pizza for dinner. I know he will have his moments but I always find myself looking forward to the next thing that’s going to come out of his mouth. Unless it is his new favorite: “I farted!”

In this video Nick is singing the “Alphabet Song” which abruptly stops and is replaced by “I peed! I peed!”

Ain’t that the truth.

Lady at Le Peep: “Oh look at the little darling! She is so beautiful!”

Me: “Thanks! Although with the level of sleep deprivation I’m at right now I’m about ready to let you take her home with you.”

LatLP: “Oh I’ve been there, done that. I know it’s all false packaging.”

Shorty but a goody.

This video is of Nick at the zoo — who doesn’t enjoy that awkward toddler run?

When it rains it pours.

Hi again.

I have been so woefully deficient about posting pictures and videos of the childrens, and for that I am sorry. But I have an excuse — not a good one but an excuse none the less. You see, iPhoto had to be all awesome and upgrade themselves and I have yet to figure out how to use it. Now there are “Events” along with “Albums” and no matter how many times Mike tries to explain it to me I never have any idea what the hell he is talking about. I have finally realized that I just need to do the stupid tutorial already so that I can actually post some new pictures.

I went ahead and braved a trip into the new iPhoto library to pull out some more videos for y’all. I have a few more new ones so I’ll post one every day (probably) for your viewing pleasure.

Today’s feature presentation: Zoey in her swing enjoying one of the MANY toys her brother brought to entertain her.
