Random Thought Thursdays

Oh look! A new feature on my blog! I needed a little consistency with my posting and my thoughts are all disorganized, so here we are. Welcome to the first edition of Random Thought Thursdays.

Why will a bird attempt to run across the street in front of your car? You can fly doofus! Flying is faster!

Addict.

I have a problem. I am addicted… to BabyLegs. I am such a mommy.

I’ve been hooked for a while but have resisted the cravings, that is until a fateful trip to Target a few weeks ago. I found a stray pair on a clearance shelf for $2.91. They don’t even carry them in the stores so I snapped them up and it was the beginning of the end. Now I have seven pairs. Help me. My daughter is just getting too cute for her own good cruising around in her little leggings.

One of the pairs I ordered had a defect so I emailed the store where I got them to see what to do about it. They got me in touch with the BabyLegs manufacturer and within a few short days they had completely taken care of the problem. They were super fast and friendly. I was already hooked on the adorable product but they really got me with the awesome customer service. Thanks BabyLegs!

I swear they did not pay me to say that, although I would almost trade them my firstborn for a few more pairs (helloooo Terrible Twos!). I just am so smitten because they appeal to my 80’s sensibilities while also being totally mod. Would it be weird if I wore them too? Sure they would only come up to my ankles but whatever…

Do you see what I’m talking about? She’s insanely cute in those, right?

Two.

Two years ago tonight my sister left us for a new adventure. I hope that wherever she is that she is happy, peaceful, and fulfilled. But damn, I miss her.

Erinsunshine.com will be expiring in a few days and we have decided not to renew the domain name. For anyone wishing to view the site you can find it at karrmedia.com — it will be accessible from there after the name officially expires. I’ll post after that time with a real link to it, and I’ll place a link on the site itself. After two years it seems like it is time to move on, at least as far as the internet is concerned.

Her website links to her guestbook, which I have cherished reading all this time. I’m sad that there won’t be any new entries after this. I’ve never posted on it because even after all this time I have no words. My sadness is too great and I am not capable of putting into words what she meant/means to me. She knows, and that is enough for me.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I don’t exactly celebrate this “holiday” but since I have a kid of cookie-making age I decided to get into it this year. We made heart shaped cookies (and butterflies and dog bones too but whatever) and decorated them, plus another day we made a nice Valentine’s Day card for the Baby Daddy. And today, the actual holy day, we made this video for you Grandparents out there:

Toxic.

A while back my mom and I were discussing about the Toxic Gas Theory being a possible cause for SIDS and my mixed feelings about the validity of this theory. It seems now that this information is spreading around the web and more people are starting to question traditional crib mattresses, which I think is a good thing regardless of how I feel about the Toxic Gas Theory. I do believe that all the flame retardants and plastics in crib mattresses are not good for our kids, especially given the amount of time most kids spend on them on a daily basis. Not MY kids, because MY kids don’t sleep, but that’s another post entirely.

5 Minutes for Mom just did an interview with a woman who owns an online store that sells natural baby products, HealthyChild.com. Reading their interview rekindled my interest in organic, chemical-free mattresses for all of us. More and more lately I want to get all the lead, PVC, pthalates, pesticides, etc, etc, ETC! out of our home and out of our bodies. We are exposed to so many nasty things that we have no control of that I think we need to take control of the things we can. Namely food, bedding, clothing — think pajamas. Kid’s pajamas are loaded with fire retardants! Why? I mean I know why, but you can’t tell me that the slim chance that the pajamas won’t immediately catch fire cannot outweigh the damage done by having such constant contact with the nasty chemicals. I just wish we could live a healthier existence without having to win the lottery to do it. Why do products that don’t have a bunch of crap added to them have to be so expensive?
