I’ve got the best kids.

Sorry folks, but mine are the best (for me anyway, though I’m sure yours are great too). I wish I had some story of awesomeness to back up that statement right now but honestly I don’t. Both of my kids are sick, I’m sick, Mike has The Pleurisy again… we’re a pitiful bunch. Even through it all I just love this crazy family so much and marvel every day about the amazing changes taking place in the little ones.

Last night Zoey SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT. She is eight months old ant this is the very first time! For the majority of her life so far she’s woken up four to eight times a night, unfortunately closer to eight every night for the past three months. Then last weekend I had a mini nervous breakdown and my mom took both kids all day Sunday, then kept Zoey all night Sunday to kick this sleep training thing into high gear. Then she wanted to have me committed and yes, I wish I was kidding about that. But after one night with the little demon she was starting to understand how a gal could lose her mind.

So by some magic Zoey is now sleeping much better and actually took quite well to the sleep training and night weaning (mostly) all rolled into one. And by “magic” I mean she was physically removed from me during the night for four days straight so she didn’t have any choice in the matter. I think it went much better than any of us had expected. And I’m working hard on building on that last shred of sanity I was clinging to.

Nick has been pretty cool lately too. He’s still 2 1/2 which by definition makes him Satan incarnate, but has been making some interesting developmental progress. Favorite things to say now are “Go away Zoey!” and “Give me my blue train set RIGHT NOW!” He’s talking so much more all the time it is really fun. Also, he has discovered “Tuesday” by David Wiesner and has us read it to him about ten times a day. It is a great book that has very few words so it is fun to make up our own dialog, however it gets a little old after about the second time in a row when your throat hurts and all you want to do is surf the internet while Thomas babysits. Blah blah human interaction blah blah tv rots their little brains blah blah blah I NEED TO DRINK MY COFFEE.

Looking forward to a lovely, productive weekend with the family. Hope yours is great too!

  • I was not really going to have you committed, just give you the opportunity to have a nice rest for a couple of days, silly. You would have to commit me if I had to be a full time mommy again at my advanced age. You silly.

  • OH — I LOVE David Wiesner. Check out The Three Pigs.
