Ugh.
Nick, thank goodness, is finally feeling better today. Poor kid has been on more drugs than Keith Richards lately. So many in fact that yesterday he started having stomach pain and diarrhea which of course led to the addition of another drug to his reportoire. Just Probiotics though, nothing too serious.
Then this morning Zo woke up at 5am and has been kind of drippy and feverish and pitiful. Mike has been nursing some kind of sinusy cold all week. I have been running a fever between 99 and 100 degrees since Monday and am feeling pretty crummy today.
What the hell?

Family, Thing #1
Oh, hello there. Where have I been? Do I have a story for you…
About two weeks ago Nick developed a runny nose which wasn’t really a problem except for the danger of his parents wanting to murder him because of the incessant, whiny “washclott, I need my washclott, washclott, washclott, WASHCLOTT!” And of course the constant hooting like a little howler monkey, but I digress.
By Sunday his sleep was getting pretty terrible, by Tuesday he was feverish and lethargic, and on Wednesday he was in Urgent Care. Another infection in both ears. There is nothing more pitiful than my usually so energetic little boy crying “I hurt” and falling asleep watching TV. He’s still running fevers but was feeling much better as of yesterday, as evidenced by the high levels of mischief he was up to.
Do you know what is about the worst thing for a kid to come running into the room and say? “I got something all over the place!” Yes, yes he did. It was, um, a water-based moisturizer of a personal nature. Ahem. Zoey was covered in it and found the texture to be very interesting. Mike got home from work just then. I bet he wished he’d stayed later!
On a side note do you know what is really cool? When the nurse asked if Nick was potty trained I could say, “Yes he is! Newly!” Even with all the sickness he has only had one accident and has stayed dry every night. This I like very much.

Random Thought Thursdays
Have you heard of this show, “The Baby Borrowers?” I believe the gist is that it is a reality show where cocky, unsuspecting teenage couples are given a toddler to babysit for some amount of time. This sounds so incredibly delicious that I just may have to watch it.

Thing #1, Thing #2
Yesterday I was ready to murder my children, specifically the older one. It was a really rough day. Then right before bed he dumped bright yellow Spongebob Squarepants bubblebath all over the bathroom floor.
Last night Zoey woke me up four times (like almost every night for the past couple weeks) and was up for good at 5:15am.
Later, while I was in the other room getting the phone to call my mom Nick dumped all the flax seeds out of my eye pillow — all over the bed, the floor, Zoey’s head, stuck to their feet and his butt.
I have RAGE.
And my mom is at a birth.
We had plans to do some shopping this morning, but now no market, no Whole Foods. No plans, just crazy and nowhere to go. I am trapped in this house with cranky, drippy-nosed, mischievous, make-me-want-to-gouge-out-my-eyes frustrating children. They’re mine, all mine. What should I do with them? Ebay?

Family, Friends, Snafu
Friday night I had some serious fun. My mom, our friend Kristin and I all drove over to Lawrence, KS to see Poi Dog Pondering play.

So is that the tiniest band you’ve ever seen or the biggest stop sign?
The show was really fun because they’re one of those bands that is great live. They played songs from every era of their music including stuff from their new album, 7.

Dancing Sarah
I have so much nostalgia for this band, I don’t even know how many times I saw them play over the years. Mabel’s, Periscope, some club in Chicago… They are the soundtrack for so many times in my life. Especially because their albums are so varied from folk to dance to rock, they got it all.

Kristin & Katie (the Blue Moon was kind to me)
I stood in the street smelling someone’s clove cigarettes, nursing my beer and dancing. It was a beautiful and bug-free night. This is how live music is supposed to be.
